Duel

Two tons of heat
Let loose in a maze
Finding each other
Like magnets broken apart at birth
Never knowing when
But feeling the draw
Nose to cheek
In a furious graze
The smallest adjustment
Having such an impact
The air dispersing
Like breath
Through every space and crack
Now fissure and rip
Creating such a unique crush
Sounding puffy and flat
The squealing of the two beasts
A symphony of disaster
People on the sidelines
Watching
Witnessing
Inferring

The duel took place at 4:07 PM
Such a random time
To create such drama
On a Saturday afternoon
For some
It was a mother-daughter day
For others
It was a confirmation of values
And for others still
It was a common occurrence
A chance encounter
That just happened
On their block
Way too often

A dangerous intersection
One turning into
One continuing on
Everything moving fast
Distractions and confusion
A bashful silence
Filled with a bashing defiance
Of right and wrong
Sirens and signatures
Fingers and fluids
"that's why they call it an accident"
Everyone is O.K.
Apologies and anxieties
A million what ifs

Two angry beasts
Stopped dead in their tracks
Heaving in desperation
Hissing with defeat
Nobody wins
They call it a draw
And hope that after they carry away the beasts
It won't be the last time we see them
Sentimental value
And a real life importance
I wonder what will happen
One thing's for sure
I'll be riding the train a lot more
