The face of Thoreau
Stares from my wallet
Though I have never
Ever read
Any of his work
All the way through
Stares from my wallet
Though I have never
Ever read
Any of his work
All the way through
When I was in high school
And something of a brat
My teacher gave me
Civil Disobedience
In an effort to suggest
That if I wanted to fight
Or be difficult
(Revolt)
I should believe in something
I carried more of a punk rock attitude
And she was nearly eighty
But had quite a bit of gusto
Knowing that my disobedient nature
Was misguided
She tried to lead
Where others just pushed
No matter
I don't remember reading the book
At least not all the way through
His language was a bore
And so I barely know anything at all
About him
Other than what it says
On the back of my wallet
However
I do plan
To look him up
On Wikipedia
Right after I finish this poem
