Already Losing

Not battling real giants
Watery towers and broccoli trees
Things will take longer to get started
Then be done faster and forgotten easier
Easter will come fast and
before cupped hands can catch rain
There will be lemonade
and jam
And four hundred ants to a branch

Those lost platforms
Unused areas of undermass
Ex-presidents will get finicky
about the renaming of things
And collars will be taut against tendons in neck
and extra skin will flop over
And sweat will linger
on cameras and cards
highly defined and glistening
Those dentures will come out at night
but not on nights where the losing
is so painful
it makes your gums throb
and you wake up several times
To pee
To get a glass of water
To ponder all god's orphans
Dramamine and Xanax
Perhaps a walk with the dog
Nothing helps
