Halloween

I was once unzipped
All teeth and folds
Jagged and exposed

I applied the tonic
Embraced the burn
I never learned

Eyes like lamps
Without the heat
It's Holloween
On an empty street

I must've seemed
So overdone
My lips fell off
For everyone

I saved the mask
I'm not sure why
Maybe to scare the kids

Funny how I miss those days
All glisten on the inside
Nothing on the out

Do we forget the trouble
The dressing and patience
Reliving the festivities
When we're off on vacations

I don't miss the excitement
The mystery nor surprise
But the freshness that comes
With a new set of eyes
