Darling, There's Death All Around Us

Around the chamber room's glow
With all the creaking and slapping
Of awning and vents
And pitter patter of little claws
There's death all around us

Surrounded by warm woven blanket
Propped up in place
By pillow and wall
Drawn in by the light of the hearth
There's death all around us

A fortunate chap is walking his dog
Out the foggy window
Where dreams doth run
He quietly ambles in patterned delight
While neighbor, there's death all around us

Hidden in nook or hollow of tree
Not signalling dogs
With their fowl spring odors
The ground is still chilling their bones and pink skin
Sweet puppies, there's death all around us

The birth mother goes
Returning to churn and tireless toil
Nerves flinching rapidly
But never alone
Your sweet babes await you in man's golden kingdom
Pink things, there's death all around us

The breezes bring notice
A wet spring will certainly wash us all off
Keeping itself busy
With the thoughts and actions that have led us to know
There's death all around us

Contained in a bag somewhere
Is a reminder of what this world is
To everything that ever moved
A wonderful binding and trapping
En route, there's death all around us

Surrounded by soft beating warmth
Is a reminder of what this world is
Completely aware of nothing
Else impulse and propulsion
To continue down the path of what is
There's things growing weary

Hidden by colorful ads
Are the stories of hunger and pain
Wishing them on no one
Especially those we know deeply
Quite simply, there's death all around us

We could keep digging holes
For the things that are found
By both dogs and humans alike
But the bags pile up and begin to smell fierce
Darling, there's death all around us
