In Chisel, On Skin

Frozen in the shower
Like off position robot
Statue of David -
Remembering names
Those people completely still
In absolute silence
Holding the same pose
As the last time seen

Behaving like children
For all our lives
Cranky, fat children
Stuffed to the gills
With intolerance --
Raping Persephone
To relieve the pressure
Belligerent and careless
Flooding the landscape

That potholed depiction
All swarming with honey
Then pausing for white wintress
Some other legion reflecting -
The pride of Hades
The lonesome lakes
Feeding peace with somber spoonful
Each morsel of solitude

Then back to David --
He, knowing the pain of losing
Both daughter's flower
Kingdom and comfort
But, standing there
Melting muscles
Sloughing shape
For function
Repeating acts when necessary
When god speaks
Through water
Doused in spring
Sprinkled in summer
Shallow in fall
