On Path to Selfless Beach

Whereas it used to be convenient
Taking an ice cream scooper
and melon balling my chest
My own chest getting dug
and your chest, too
Then your mother's chest
and it all becomes very complicated

Smelling the paint fumes
I still want to protect everybody
Only myself less
Not as in selfless
As in less
Whereas there used to be more

In some garaged motive
Judging by everything we've accomplished
and straining at the gills
Whereas we used to breathe a sigh
and it sometimes came with relief
but didn't really matter
If it were a sigh of contentment
Now there are those
but sometimes our gills get hot

With some patchy roads
There are logs that have just been strewn
some maple conquered
Before ruining the roof
Whereas we used to know more
We now just take precaution
There are things below the surface
at the beach we know
Things we know are there
Even if we can't see them
this very instant
