We Are Alone

Not a shock
The statue we built
Did not express
The true complexity
Of the human condition
Since the Baroque period is over
Quality has really suffered
For the comfort of us all
But in the new dawn's light
Some eyes
Better fixed on the atmosphere than others
Witness storms in the making
The stillness a shock
To their gentle disposition
Better they forecast
For us all
And swallow things up
True shaman
Not so common
These days after the fall
Of the Berlin Wall,
The walls of Babylon,
The walls of the painted cave
Our lungs unable
To breathe in the spirit
And allow the release
Of the toxic subparticles
It's a shame
The one who can help
Must participate with
Not in lieu of
Sharing that gift
Too subtle for our time
But well hidden
Between the bars of a G clef
As notes that jump
Pop and sizzle
From off the page
And into our ears
For our own salvation
Convincing the weak and the infirmed alike
To participate without any nudging
Not pulling or pushing
But piping
Softly
Even with a warrior face
The story is broken
To laugh out loud
Like children do
Together
Innocent
Filled with promise
Encapsulated
Forcing the guards to dance
Without ever letting on
That they are hypnotized
Doesn't matter
Once the process
Is under way
That figure
May not be replaced
But at the center of town
We should not only erect and clean
But assume the duty for the need
And keep our novice eyes open
For something else
That acts as elixir
Masquerading as harmless melody
