Weight Exchange

Growing old
On a moving train
is humbling
Distracting my view
From the changes outside
I see your face
aging
Your purse style
changes
Your hairstyle
is different
Your beard
more gray
Until
the ones that came in
tattered
hungry
cocky
ambitious
Are neatly folded
Like little newspapers
On top of each other
Or side by side
In so many rows
As those hunched
over and
liver spotted
find solace at home
Maybe a show
Perhaps a specialist
Or even an estate manager
But one day
All the seating arrangements
change
The trusted cushion
Will experience a weight exchange
Nicer to think
and say
Retired to Florida
Even if that's not the case
A disappearance
that goes unnoticed
is humbling
and distracting
Because we all retire
to Florida
or simply
stop moving
at such great speeds
