Treebones and Pension

Remembering to change
When you need to
Better than changing the oil
Or knowing it's time
Lest we forget
Whose bones we suck

Changing into your father
Not as bad when
Your reference is skewed
To less than
Or never made the grade
These genes will kill you

Make no bones about it
There is a transplant story
In here somewhere
Rich in culture
Like cheese or vaccination
Our temporary conditions

The sun has scorned us
And shown us the deliberate way
Like measles in the clouds
Seeds on a strawberry
Bumps on the gourd
We change when we are ready

Cutting into our plans
The things we thought we wanted
Mass and potential
Being scaled down
Into minute particles of humble
Finding peace in a mosquito

If you catch yourself in time
You can argue with your pain
Explain your reasons to the boss
That mitochondrial Zeus
Throwing rocks through your own windows
To garner the effect
