Dayenu

There are few traditions
Matching the spirit of Passover
With its contempt and revenge
A disputable story of triumph over struggle

Warring tales
Surviving on plates
With symbols etched into the surface
To remember that history is not written by winners
But by historians

By weaving lessons
Into the details and patterns
It has given an otherwise flat premise
Thousands of years of candletime

When the songs are recounted
Against all that has been recanted
Even the children don't know why they sing necessarily -
The adults know there is time for that
Things only change so much
