Gallantly Not Today

Ramparts
Make way
For something this-worldly
I need coffee
And a bread product
Maybe even some peanut butter
To spread across this sameness
Why can't we all wave our own flag now?
United under the icon and avatar
I see a Starbucks
I walk in
Under the giant logo
(not really)
I brew my own coffee
At home and at work
I am a poet
Not a green box
With codes written in permanent black
Against a matte white sky
But I will gladly fly your flag
At half mast
Or on another day
When I surrender
To that which consumes me
And that which needs to be consumed
