Laying Down Kindly

That flat
Slatted kabuki shoe
With pegs waiting
When it is said, peg head rings true north

Those rows of bezel
Or serration of sky
Against veiny rough
Receding into dusty whale

All the ideas in rounded windows
Couldn't keep us satisfied
We find shelter by heading south
Tickled with blacktop

Fingers made from chickens for now
But when faced with darkness
So cold and permanent
We shutter and clench our babies

We make fists and even doughy claws
But argue over seats
On wheels and tracks
And all in front of children
